Background of the Study

Local government policies are crucial in shaping the social, economic, and political landscape of a region. In Gombe Local Government Area, gender inclusion has become an important focus in the formulation of policies aimed at promoting equality. This study seeks to assess the effectiveness of local government policies in enhancing gender inclusion, focusing on women’s participation in politics, leadership roles, and community development.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the establishment of policies promoting gender equality, women in Gombe continue to face challenges in achieving full political participation and leadership. The impact of these policies on increasing gender inclusivity is not well-documented, and it remains unclear how much influence these policies have had in enhancing women’s roles in local governance and political processes.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the effectiveness of local government policies in promoting gender inclusion in Gombe.

  2. To evaluate how these policies have impacted women’s participation in political and leadership roles.

  3. To identify the barriers that limit the success of gender-inclusive policies.

  4. To recommend ways to improve the implementation of gender-inclusive policies at the local government level.

  3. What are the key barriers hindering the full implementation of gender-inclusive policies?

  4. How can local government policies be improved to better support gender inclusion?

1.5 Research Hypothesis

  1. Local government policies have a positive impact on gender inclusion in Gombe.

  2. The barriers to effective gender inclusion are rooted in cultural, economic, and institutional factors.

  3. Strengthening policy implementation would lead to improved gender equality in local governance.

1.6 Significance of the Study

This study will provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of gender inclusion policies at the local government level, which can be used to improve future policies and ensure better participation of women in politics and leadership in Gombe.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on local government policies in Gombe Local Government Area and their impact on gender inclusion. Limitations may include the availability of reliable data and access to policymakers involved in the formulation and implementation of these policies.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms

  • Gender Inclusion: The practice of ensuring equal participation of men and women in political, social, and economic activities.
